Mill Creek Little League Day

Mill Creek Juniors Capture District Title

The Mill Creek Little League Juniors Baseball Team won the District Championship on Tuesday June, 23 with a 13-9 victory over Stilly Valley Little League. Mill Creek -- a combination 13- and 14-year olds from Mill Creek, Mukilteo and Alderwood Little Leagues (Jacob Allen, Tyler Dunnagan, Kyle Erickson, Aiden Ferry, Alex Hamm, Gavin Hooper, Dylan Jastad, Talon Lopes, Logan Mikulecky, Jonathan Navaro, Alex Ripke, Gabe Galindo, Joesph Skoog, Coach Brandon Hamm, Coach Mike Galindo and Manger Robert Allen) -- will now get ready for the State Tournament, July 18-25, in Vancouver, Washington.

In the Championship game, Mill Creek fought hard on offense and had the will (despite a few errors) to win. Stilly Valley kept the game close, but Jacob Allen shut down all hopes inducing a pop up from the Stilly Valley No. 4 hitter and striking out the next batter on 4 pitches.

Mill Creek began the District 1 tournament on Saturday June 20 against the No. 1-ranked Pacific team. The Mill Creek Squad came out hard behind the pitching of Gavin Hooper and Aiden Ferry defeating Pacific 16-2. In the second round the determined team faced their nemesis, the very strong Everett team. Trailing most of the game the young men had no quit in them when they came to bat in the bottom of the 7th inning behind by a run. Gabe Galindo grounded out but had a great at bat which put the starting pitcher over his pitch-count allotment. Dylan Jastad quickly took advantage of the new pitcher, hitting a single through the infield. Alex Hamm entered as a Special Pinch Runner with Kyle Erickson up to bat. Erickson worked the count and reached base on an infield hit that the defense could not handle which advanced Hamm to second. Hamm stole third and drew a throw from the catcher which went into left field plating Hamm for the tying run and Erickson advanced to second on the throw. With one out, Alex Ripke came up to bat. Erickson stole third on the first pitch and Ripke hit a sharp ground ball to the shortstop with Erickson running on contact and scoring to win the game 10-9.
